Thoughts from a Tour Pro

I was watching an older episode of Playing Lessons with the Pros with Paul Casey (he was a Titleist guy back in the day).  When he was talking about his driver he made two really interesting points:

1. The Driver is a Specialty Club - With the new technology and and ever-expanding club head size, the driver should be used as a tool to complete its intended goal: to hit the ball long and straight.  Newer drivers are certainly still “workable” clubs, but will never be as much so as say, a 3-wood.  Use your driver when you really need distance and hitting it straight is the best reward.

2.  Long Game/Short Game - with the pros, golf is slowly becoming a 2-fold system; drive it long and have a great short game.  The longer and straighter you hit it, the more shots you’re going to have from 150yds and in.  This is where great short iron and wedge play become crucial.  Hit it long, stick it close, tap-in birdie, on to the next hole.

I’d like to hear what you guys think about these ideas. Do you agree?  Does this fit your game plan at all?  Just a fun question for this week.  Enjoy the day friends!
